The term gets used in different ways. Sometimes it means someone to help you stay on track day to day — especially around drinking or drug use. In practice, it usually points to something simpler:
Having someone steady to talk to
— who understands what’s going on
— and can help you stay clear as you figure out what to do next
Sober coaching happens inside your life — where the decisions are actually being made. It’s not therapy and it’s not treatment.
